Wix SEO for AI search: robots.txt, sitemap and llms.txt settings
Wix gives you most of the AI search plumbing out of the box. The SEO & GEO dashboard has a Robots.txt Editor, the sitemap at /sitemap.xml updates itself, Wix generates an llms.txt for upgraded sites with a custom domain, and product, blog, event and booking pages get preset JSON-LD. There is no AI crawler toggle: you block bots by writing robots.txt rules.
- Edit robots.txt
- YesSEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Robots.txt Editor > View File. Default allows all bots; Reset to Default restores it.
- XML sitemap
- YesGenerated and updated automatically. Connecting Google Search Console through the SEO Setup Checklist submits it for you (Premium plan and connected domain).
/sitemap.xml - llms.txt
- YesWix generates /llms.txt for upgraded sites with a custom domain and indexing on. View, edit or turn it off at SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Go to llms.txt.
- AI crawlers
- No toggle. By default Wix's robots.txt lets bots crawl all pages. Wix's help center gives sample Disallow rules for CCBot, GPTBot, ChatGPT-User and BingAI to paste into the Robots.txt Editor, and suggests the nosnippet robots meta tag per page.
- Structured data
- Preset JSON-LD on Wix Stores products (Product), Bookings services (Course), Blog posts (Article, BlogPosting by default), Events (Event) and Portfolio (Images). Add custom JSON-LD in SEO settings, up to 5 markups per setting and under 7,000 characters each.
Wix robots.txt: where it is and how to edit it
Wix serves robots.txt at your domain root and, by default, lets search engine bots reach every page. Password-protected pages, members-only pages and pages you set to noindex stay out of reach regardless. To change the file:
- In your site's dashboard open SEO & GEO.
- Scroll to Tools and settings and click Robots.txt Editor.
- Click View File and add your directives under This is your current file.
- Click Save Changes, then Save.
Wix labels this an advanced feature, and its Customer Care team will not troubleshoot your edits. If something breaks, the same screen has Reset to Default. Search engines only see the change on their next crawl, so test the live file with the robots.txt checker rather than waiting.
AI crawlers on Wix
There is no "block AI" switch. Wix's help center gives a starting block list for the Robots.txt Editor:
User-agent: CCBot
Disallow: /
User-agent: GPTBot
Disallow: /
User-agent: ChatGPT-User
Disallow: /
Think before pasting it. GPTBot collects training data, but ChatGPT-User fetches a page when a person asks ChatGPT about it, so blocking that one removes you from live answers. Wix's alternative for a single page is the nosnippet robots meta tag (Pages & Menu > More Actions > SEO basics > Advanced SEO > Robots meta tag), which Wix says stops that page's text being used directly in AI overviews. Wix also warns that blocking AI crawlers may limit its NLWeb features.
Wix sitemap
Wix generates /sitemap.xml as an index and keeps it current. Connecting Google Search Console from the SEO Setup Checklist submits it automatically (Premium plan and connected domain required). To submit by hand, verify your domain in Search Console, open Sitemaps, enter sitemap.xml and submit; for Bing Webmaster Tools use the full URL. Wix Multilingual subdomains each have their own sitemap and need their own property.
llms.txt on Wix
Wix creates an llms.txt for you once the site is upgraded, has a custom domain and allows indexing. It summarizes public content and agent resources such as MCP, never private or members-only pages. To view it go to SEO & GEO > Tools and settings > Go to llms.txt > View File. To edit, use More Actions > Edit file; editing stops automatic updates until you click Reset to Default. The Use your llms.txt file toggle turns it off. Check what it actually says with the llms.txt checker: an auto-generated summary may not describe what you sell the way buyers ask about it.
Structured data
Wix adds preset schema markup to app pages: Product on store items, Course on booking services, Article (BlogPosting by default) on blog posts, Event on events and Images on portfolio items. Add custom JSON-LD in each page's SEO settings with + Add New Markup; Wix accepts JSON-LD only, up to five markups per setting, each under 7,000 characters. An Organization block on the homepage, naming the business the same way as your other profiles, is a sensible first addition.

Questions
- Where is the Wix sitemap?
- Add /sitemap.xml to your domain. Wix keeps it updated as you edit, so you do not need to resubmit it. If you connect Google Search Console through the SEO Setup Checklist, Wix submits it to Google for you; that needs a Premium plan and a connected domain.
- Can I edit robots.txt on Wix?
- Yes. Open SEO & GEO in the dashboard, scroll to Tools and settings, click Robots.txt Editor and then View File. Add rules under This is your current file and save. Wix Customer Care cannot help with changes, and Reset to Default undoes them.
- Does Wix block AI crawlers?
- Not by default, and there is no switch for it. The default file lets bots crawl all your pages. To block a crawler, add a User-agent group with Disallow: / in the Robots.txt Editor. Wix warns this may limit its NLWeb features.
- Does Wix create an llms.txt file?
- Yes, for sites that are upgraded, connected to a custom domain and open to search engine indexing. Wix maintains it automatically until you edit it; after an edit it stops auto-updating until you click Reset to Default.
