Lovable SEO for AI search: SSR, pre-rendering and what crawlers see

Lovable builds React apps, and whether AI crawlers can read them depends on when the project was created. Apps created from May 13, 2026 (June 22, 2026 on Enterprise) use TanStack Start with server-side rendering, so every request gets full HTML. Older React + Vite apps stay client-rendered for people, and Lovable pre-renders pages on request for verified crawlers, including the AI search crawlers of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini.

Edit robots.txt
YesLovable creates a robots.txt with every new project. Fix problems by asking Lovable in chat or with Try to fix in the SEO and AI search review.
XML sitemap
PartlyNot always created. The SEO and AI search review checks sitemap.xml and flags a missing or malformed file or a missing Sitemap line, and can fix it. /sitemap.xml
llms.txt
PartlyNot required or generated by Lovable. If your project already has an llms.txt, Lovable keeps serving it.
AI crawlers
Older React + Vite apps serve pre-rendered HTML only to verified crawlers, a list that includes AI search crawlers. Unverified bots get the regular single-page app unless they request Markdown. TanStack Start apps send full HTML to everyone.
Structured data
No fixed default. The review checks that JSON-LD is readable, matches the visible page and is complete for the rich result it targets; missing WebSite, Organization or FAQPage markup is not flagged by itself.

What AI crawlers see on a Lovable app

Lovable's own upgrade guide puts the problem plainly: an older React + Vite app sends the browser a mostly empty page, and JavaScript in the visitor's browser builds the content. A crawler that does not run JavaScript sees that empty shell, the same issue any client-only React single-page app has. Lovable's hosting docs say it solves this on Lovable hosting in two ways, depending on when the project was created:

ProjectHow pages are renderedWhat a crawler gets
Created from May 13, 2026 (June 22, 2026 on Enterprise)TanStack Start, server-side renderingFully rendered HTML on every request, for every client
Older React + ViteClient-side for people; on-request pre-rendering for verified crawlersHTML if the crawler is verified; the regular single-page app otherwise

Lovable's verified list covers search engines such as Google and Bing, AI search crawlers such as those of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini, social preview bots and verified SEO tools. Two limits from Lovable's docs: content that loads late may be missing from a pre-rendered page, and pre-rendering applies to deployed public URLs. Unpublished projects, restricted sites and branded workspace URLs never appear in search.

Lovable also serves a Markdown version of any page to clients that ask for Markdown, on both stacks. That is how an unverified bot can still get clean text. Older projects can be upgraded in place to TanStack Start, which adds full server-side rendering. Upgrading is optional: Lovable says older projects keep working and stay readable through pre-rendering, but tools outside the verified list see very little until you switch.

robots.txt and sitemap

Lovable creates a robots.txt with every new project, but not always a sitemap, and starting metadata is generic. There is no file editor to learn: open More > Analytics, select the SEO & AI tab, and run the SEO and AI search review. It checks robots.txt and sitemap.xml, flags blocking rules, a missing or wrong Sitemap: line, malformed sitemaps and placeholder or relative URLs, and offers Try to fix or Try to fix all. You can also ask Lovable in chat. Running the review is included on all plans; Try to fix uses normal Lovable credits.

Google reads the sitemap from your live site, so publish before you submit it. After connecting a custom domain, run the review again so Lovable can verify the domain in Search Console, then resubmit the sitemap.

llms.txt, AI crawlers and structured data

Lovable does not require llms.txt, and the review does not flag a missing one. If your project has one, Lovable serves it. The review includes an AI readiness check that confirms AI crawlers get a clean Markdown version of the published site.

There is no AI crawler toggle; access comes down to the robots.txt the review checks and the rendering above. Verify the live result for bots like OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot with the robots.txt checker.

For JSON-LD, the review checks that markup is readable, matches the visible page and is complete for its rich result type, and flags pages that qualify for a rich result but lack markup. A common finding is a JSON-LD type that does not match the page.

Questions

Is Lovable bad for SEO?
Not on Lovable hosting. New apps (created from May 13, 2026, or June 22, 2026 on Enterprise) render on the server with TanStack Start. Older React + Vite apps are pre-rendered on request for verified crawlers, so Google, Bing and AI search crawlers get HTML even though people get a client-rendered app.
Can ChatGPT and Perplexity read my Lovable site?
Lovable lists the AI search crawlers of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini among the verified crawlers it pre-renders for. On TanStack Start, every request gets server-rendered HTML anyway. Content that loads late may still be missing from a pre-rendered page.
Why does an SEO scanner say my Lovable pages are empty?
On older React + Vite projects, Lovable only pre-renders for verified crawlers. Third-party scanners are usually not on that list, so they see the empty single-page app shell. Lovable says this does not reflect what Google and AI search engines see.
Do I need a pre-rendering service like Prerender.io with Lovable?
Lovable says Lovable-hosted projects do not need an external pre-rendering service for search engines or AI crawlers. Its docs describe pre-rendering as part of Lovable hosting and do not cover code you deploy elsewhere, so a self-hosted React + Vite build needs its own server rendering or pre-rendering plan.
