Shopware SEO for AI search: robots.txt, sitemap and JSON-LD

Shopware 6.7.1.0 and later generate robots.txt and let you edit rules per domain in the Administration under Settings > General > Basic information. The sitemap is served at /sitemap.xml and refreshed on a schedule you set. Product pages carry schema.org microdata by default, and 6.7.9.0 added JSON-LD behind a feature flag. There is no llms.txt or AI crawler setting in core.

Edit robots.txt
YesBuilt in since 6.7.1.0: edit rules per domain under Settings > General > Basic information. Older versions need a robots.txt file in the public directory.
XML sitemap
YesGenerated per sales channel and split into several files. Set the refresh time and strategy (scheduled, live or manual) in the sitemap settings. /sitemap.xml
llms.txt
With a plugin or appNot in Shopware core. Extensions in the Shopware Store manage llms.txt, or you can place a static file in the public directory.
AI crawlers
No AI-specific setting documented. Add user-agent rules for AI bots in the robots.txt field. Shopware 6.7.9.0 added an experimental Agentic Commerce sales channel that exports product feeds to OpenAI Merchant Center.
Structured data
Microdata on storefront pages by default. With the JSON_LD_DATA feature flag (off by default in 6.7.9.0) Shopware outputs JSON-LD: WebSite with SearchAction, Organization, BreadcrumbList, ItemList, and Product with offers, GTIN, MPN, ratings and reviews. Microdata is set to be removed in 6.8.0.0.

robots.txt in Shopware 6

Since Shopware 6.7.1.0 (July 2025), Shopware generates robots.txt for you. To change it:

  1. In the Administration, open Settings > General > Basic information.
  2. Find the robots.txt field and add Allow or Disallow rules per domain.
  3. Save, then open https://yourdomain/robots.txt to check the result.

Shopware prepends a domain's path to its rules, so a sales channel at /en/ gets /en/ added to each Allow and Disallow line, and the generated file points crawlers to the sitemap, including on virtual paths. Shopware's docs stress that robots.txt only controls crawling: it does not stop anyone opening a page.

On versions before 6.7.1.0, nothing is generated. You create a text file called robots.txt in the public directory. Shopware's example disallows query-string URLs, account, checkout, widget and navigation paths, and adds Sitemap: https://YOUR_DOMAIN/sitemap.xml.

Shopware sitemap

The sitemap lives at /sitemap.xml and is split into several files, generated in the background so big catalogs do not time out. In the sitemap settings you set a Refresh time and a Refresh strategy:

  • Scheduled: a scheduled task regenerates it regularly.
  • Live: it is created when none exists and rebuilt once the refresh time passes.
  • Manually: you run php bin/console sitemap:generate yourself after URLs change.

If products are missing from your XML sitemap, check the strategy first. A manual strategy that nobody runs is a common cause.

Structured data: microdata now, JSON-LD next

Shopware's storefront has long used schema.org microdata. Shopware 6.7.9.0 added a JSON_LD_DATA feature flag, off by default. With it on, Shopware outputs JSON-LD and removes the microdata:

  • WebSite with a SearchAction and Organization with logo on every page
  • BreadcrumbList and an ItemList on category and search pages
  • Product on detail pages with all images, videos, rating count, up to 10 recent reviews, shipping details for single-price products, item condition, GTIN-13 and MPN when present

Each schema has its own Twig template under storefront/layout/structured-data/, so plugins can override one piece. Microdata is deprecated and due to be removed in 6.8.0.0.

AI crawlers and llms.txt

Shopware documents no AI-specific bot setting. To set a policy, add named groups in the robots.txt field, for example disallowing GPTBot while leaving OAI-SearchBot allowed, then test with the robots.txt checker. There is no core llms.txt feature either. Extensions in the Shopware Store manage one, or you can place a plain-text file in public.

Shopware 6.7.9.0 also introduced an experimental "Agentic Commerce" sales channel type, with OpenAI Merchant Center as the first supported product feed export. It is labeled experimental, so test it on staging first.

Questions

Where is robots.txt in Shopware 6?
From Shopware 6.7.1.0, the Administration has a robots.txt field under Settings > General > Basic information where you set rules per domain. On older versions you create a robots.txt text file in the public directory yourself.
What is the Shopware sitemap URL?
https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. It is an index of several files, generated in the background so large catalogs work. Submit that URL to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
How do I switch Shopware to JSON-LD structured data?
In 6.7.9.0 and later, enable the JSON_LD_DATA feature flag. Shopware then injects JSON-LD and removes the microdata. Shopware says microdata will be removed in 6.8.0.0, so plan for JSON-LD either way.
Does Shopware block AI crawlers?
Shopware's docs describe no AI-specific defaults. If you want to allow or block named bots such as GPTBot, add user-agent rules in the robots.txt field and check the live file afterwards.
