PrestaShop SEO for AI search: robots.txt, sitemap and product JSON-LD
PrestaShop writes robots.txt with a Generate robots.txt button on the SEO & URLs page, and each click replaces the file, so custom rules go in afterwards. Sitemaps come from the official Google sitemap module (gsitemap), not from core. The Classic theme prints Product JSON-LD. There is no llms.txt or AI crawler setting.
- Edit robots.txt
- YesThe Generate robots.txt button on the SEO & URLs page writes a file for all bots. Regenerating replaces the whole file, so add your own rules after generating.
- XML sitemap
- With a plugin or appGenerated by the official Google sitemap module (gsitemap), one sitemap per shop language plus an index named after the shop ID.
/1_index_sitemap.xml - llms.txt
- NoNo llms.txt feature in PrestaShop core. You would upload a plain-text file to the shop root yourself.
- AI crawlers
- No AI-specific setting. The generated rules use User-agent: * only, so AI crawlers get the same access as search engines unless you add named groups by hand.
- Structured data
- The Classic theme prints Product JSON-LD from templates/_partials/microdata/product-jsonld.tpl: name, description, category, image, SKU, MPN, GTIN-13, brand, weight, aggregateRating, and an Offer with price, currency, availability, condition and seller.
Generating robots.txt in PrestaShop
PrestaShop creates robots.txt from the back office:
- Go to Shop Parameters > Traffic & SEO (the SEO & URLs page).
- Scroll to the robots file generation section.
- Click Generate robots.txt.
The generated file uses User-agent: *, so every rule applies to every bot, and it blocks files and directories that are not meant to be public. PrestaShop's guide is clear about the catch: clicking Generate robots.txt replaces any existing file with a new one. If you want your own rules, add them after generating, by editing the file in the shop root over FTP or your host's file manager, and keep a copy, because the next regeneration wipes them.
That matters for AI search. If you add named groups for AI crawlers, for example to block GPTBot from training while letting OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot in, a later click on the button silently reverts the store to the default. Re-check the live file with the robots.txt checker after any SEO settings change.
PrestaShop sitemap with the gsitemap module
PrestaShop core does not build an XML sitemap. The official Google sitemap module (gsitemap) does. The current repository lists PrestaShop 8.2.0 or later as the minimum and supports multistore, with separate settings per store.
The module writes one sitemap per shop language, named like 1_en_0_sitemap.xml, plus an index file named after the shop ID, 1_index_sitemap.xml for the first shop, in the shop root. Submit the index URL to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. The module leaves out store pages whose controllers are on core's robots.txt block list (such as cart and account pages), and it adds best-sellers and brand pages only when those listings are enabled.
Product structured data in the Classic theme
The default Classic theme prints a JSON-LD block for each product page from templates/_partials/microdata/product-jsonld.tpl. It includes:
Productwith name, description, category and the cover imageskuandmpn(falling back to the product ID when no reference is set) andgtin13from the EAN-13 or UPCbrandfrom the manufacturer, or the shop name when there is noneaggregateRatingwhen ratings and a comment count exist, andweightwhen set- An
Offerwith price, currency,priceValidUntil15 days ahead, availability, item condition and the shop as seller
Fill in references, EAN-13 codes and manufacturers in the catalog, since empty fields fall back to generic values. If you use a different theme or an SEO module that adds its own product schema, check for duplicate Product blocks in Google's Rich Results Test.
llms.txt on PrestaShop
PrestaShop has no llms.txt feature. If you want one, write a short plain-text summary of the shop, its main categories and policy pages, upload it as llms.txt to the shop root, and confirm it loads with the llms.txt checker.

Questions
- Why did my custom robots.txt rules disappear in PrestaShop?
- Clicking Generate robots.txt replaces any existing robots.txt with a fresh one. PrestaShop's own guide says to add your rules after generating, and to re-add them every time you regenerate.
- Where is the PrestaShop sitemap?
- Core PrestaShop has none. The official Google sitemap module writes one file per language and an index in the shop root named after the shop ID, such as /1_index_sitemap.xml for the first shop. Submit that index URL.
- Does PrestaShop output product schema?
- The default Classic theme prints a Product JSON-LD block on product pages with identifiers, brand, rating and an Offer. Third-party themes may differ, so view a product page's source and search for application/ld+json.
- Can I block AI crawlers in PrestaShop?
- There is no toggle. After generating robots.txt, add groups such as User-agent: GPTBot with Disallow: / by editing the file, and remember that the next regeneration will remove them.
